Food Donations for our New Pilgrims

A fall food drive has always been a part of our year at Grace Episcopal Day School. We take the opportunity offered by Thanksgiving to give thanks for all that we have, and to think of others who are in need of food and other necessities.

This year, we have decided to dedicate our food drive to the service and support of “new pilgrims” — families who have recently arrived in the United States from other countries. With the help of Lutheran Social Services, we have identified two immigrant families with children to whom we will donate food this holiday season. Our two families represent the wonderful international diversity that makes up the fabric of the United States: one family is from Afghanistan and has 8 children; the other family is from El Salvador and has 2 children.

Please click here for a list of suggested food items, which will reflect the culture and habits of our adopted families by listing any dietary restrictions and preferred food items. And we welcome Grace families to be creative with their donations! Think of boxes of fruit, non-perishable snacks, and even some sweet treats. We welcome anything that is not fragile and does not need refrigeration.

We’ll start accepting donations of food on Monday, November 26 and will end on Friday, December 7, the night of our community Christmas Tree Lighting. Please let us know if you are able to volunteer to deliver the donations by contacting Cindy Winder at cwwinder@yahoo.com.

Let the light of your giving and generosity be as sparkling and comforting as that of our Christmas tree, as we welcome new pilgrims to our country!
