Community Tuition

Our Pioneering Approach to Access and Affordability

Learn how Grace Episcopal Day approaches financial aid, making school more affordable while building a community that reflects DC's diversity.

In 2018, Grace Episcopal Day School became the first Metro DC independent school to launch a tuition program that radically reinvented traditional financial aid. Designed both to increase access and affordability and to guarantee a socioeconomically diverse school community, what we call Community Tuition benefits all of us. It empowers the admission team to create the kind of community we want for our children: one that is broadly diverse and inclusive, where every child and family feel like they belong.

How Community Tuition Works

If full tuition at Grace seems out of reach, we invite you to apply for Community Tuition. Rather than offering a financial aid package or discount, after reviewing your financial picture, Grace may offer a set tuition amount that ideally aligns with what your family can afford.

“Grace’s mission, since our founding in 1960, has been to create a school for Greater Washington where everyone feels like they belong. We believe our school community is stronger when it reflects the diversity surrounding us. We are impelled by our mission and our morals to welcome students and families of varying financial means as equal partners in the project of educating Grace students.”

Tuition and Fees

In truth, even full tuition at independent schools falls short of covering the full cost of the education per student. We rely on annual giving and other generous sources of financial support to close the gap.

Grace offers morning and afternoon extended care. Explore our Extended Day program.
