Our Grade 1 students have been busy designing and Our Grade 1 students have been busy designing and building robots 🤖 using recyclable materials as part of a meaningful project-based learning experience. This work began as a math exploration while learning about flat (2D) and solid (3D) shapes, as students identified, compared, and used them to design their creations. Connected to our previous learning, they made thoughtful connections between technology, purpose, and design. Through research, students gathered information to support their nonfiction writing, creating informational pieces that describe their robots’ features, functions, and roles. This project also highlights collaboration, as students worked together, shared ideas, and built on each other’s thinking throughout the process. Guided by Project Zero thinking routines and Reggio Emilia-inspired strategies, our students continue to grow as curious thinkers, creative designers, and confident communicators. 🤖💡✏️
