In Loving Memory of Theolyn Wilson

Grace Episcopal Day School mourns the passing of Theolyn Wilson, a cherished member of our community and a beloved friend of our founding Head of School, Jane Wood.

A gifted musician and dedicated educator, Theolyn devoted more than forty years to teaching children the joy and discipline of music. She served as Grace’s Director of Music for twenty-nine years, retiring in 2000 after shaping the musical lives of generations of students. Through weekly music classes, Christmas Chapels, Spring Musicals, assemblies, and performances, she instilled not only musical skill, but also confidence, poise, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

Her legacy continues to live on at Grace through the annual Theolyn Wilson Music Award, presented to a Grade 5 student who exemplifies enthusiasm, dedication, and excellence in music. Each recipient reflects the spirit of commitment and joy that Theolyn brought to her work, and their name is added to a plaque displayed outside the school office—a lasting tribute to her enduring influence.

Theolyn also shared a special friendship with Jane Wood and held a deep affection for Grace’s early years. She often spoke fondly of the community she loved so dearly, recalling stories that captured both the warmth and spirit of the school’s beginnings.

As we remember Theolyn, we give thanks for a life dedicated to education, music, and the nurturing of young people. Her presence continues to resonate each time our students raise their voices in song, step confidently onto a stage, or discover the joy of making music together.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Norwood Parish, in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
